Somebody said to me recently, and in reference to my two sites as well as others; “People don’t read stuff anymore on blog/web page platforms. They either want to scroll through images or watch something on YouTube “. I’m not sure if he was giving me some ‘advice in a tough love style’ or whether he hadn’t actually considered how I’d feel about his statement, which wasn’t supported by any data to prove his point by the way.
There is some truth to his statement though, but it doesn’t cover everyone, like you for example as you’re reading this, to which I’m grateful. If I look at my own behaviours, I don’t read a daily paper. I only once-a-day scan the ‘BBC-bad-news-page’, and let’s face it, 99% of all news is negative and if it’s about politics, likely to be a bit divisive as well. I only buy and read a couple of quarterly magazines. I use YouTube for my own subjects of daily TV watching or finding out how to do something. I do flick through social media, read some stuff and don’t read other things, and sometimes dangerously, make an opinion based on a single photo, whilst missing the context in the words. I believe all of these platforms can be used to develop and inform me, so I see them as positive, even though the adverts can be annoying, but then again, I have bought something that ‘just popped up in my feed’.
FYI – This hasn’t been written by AI, which is the current tool for both reading and writing. I also haven’t dictated this into one of the latest and actually, very good dictation tools either. I’ve typed it myself!
So, getting to the point, I’ve done this post slightly differently. As a summary of motorcycling related stuff I’ve done recently, it’s done with a load of images and captions. The captions aren’t long, promise. You can either scroll down through the images and leave, or spend some time reading about what the image is saying. Anyway, you have the freedom to do what you want, and I hope you enjoy this post.
All the gear and no idea? Not quite. Whilst being a very quiet bike as it’s electric, it can be brutally fast. When I first bought it, I thought its sole job was to throw me off in dramatic style. I’ve since mastered it and ensure that the TAKK-gloved forefinger on my lefthand is ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS on standby to pull that clutch lever in to prevent me being bucked off the horse.I thought all used motorcycle tyres went to the great re-cycling place in the sky, or underground or wherever, but I was wrong. Pleasingly, there are still kids out there that will make a swing out of one and use it to navigate a semi-circular route over a river or when it’s hot, actually jump in from it. This lucky ‘Metzeler Perfect ME77’ tyre has found a second life of alternative entertainment for users.I’m showing this in black and white as I thinks it adds to the atmosphere. Whilst the old Land Rover has been there a loooooooong time, and is probably on the ‘want list’ for restorers of the marque, I bet there’s also an old motorcycle or two behind that metal door, but I could be wrong.Whilst Vita has now done 1800 miles since I got her in February, I’ve noticed how useful that big space is underneath the seat. Actually, it’s really not useful for putting a helmet in as none of my helmets will fit in. However, a 1/12th scale radio controlled car fits in perfectly so it means I can ride to the track on a sunny day!The Bike Shed Show & the subsequent, New jacket – Joe Hall from Hall Bros’ Motorcycles (link below) and I went ‘all the way down to London on our own’ to visit the famous Bike Shed Show. I spotted a great jacket called The Alcatraz (guess why?) by a company called Pike Bros’ and Joe got one in stock for me. I like it. My wife doesn’t. My fifth visit as a competitor/participator to the great Race the Waves (RTWs & link below) will be this September and in advance, British kite maker Flexifoil International (link below) printed up and made the RTWs organisation a kite to use during the event. I took it down to the beach to do a photo shoot fly past with the team after they’d had one of their pre-event meetings. Scratched van – FFS! This is the second time we’ve scratched the van and in the same place, in the same bloody car park! Here, Vita is doing her best to hide the damage.Flourless Orange cake – Just the job after a ride out is a piece of delicious cake. I’ve made this a few times now and it’s amazingly deeelish’. Ride it day – Vita took a ride out one Sunday with some friends as part of raising money for the UK’s NSPCC Childline charity. The sun shone. The fish and chips in Whitby were great. Nobody had any mechanical issues throughout the day. Fortunately.
