This post is similar to the previous one in format; Just photos and some captions. It’s dedicated to some noteworthy stuff that’s happened in August and September here in a (mostly) very sunny North Yorkshire.
Firstly, and a non-motorcycling one, I’ve grown 9 varieties of Chilli this year and they’re all at the very least ‘quite hot’, with some being very, very hot. They all look magnificent at this time of year as they each go through their own, colourful ripening phase. The annual ‘get sand everywhere’ event, Race the Waves, took place in September, with good weather AND crucially, my little red Bultaco was in giant killer form. This was the fifth time that I’ve entered the event, and the fourth time that the Bultaco has ‘got sand everywhere’.After some pre-event beach race preparation, it was necessary to give the Bultaco a good thrashing down the road to test it. The road and the hedges are a bit blurred in this image due to the shear speed of the Bultaco. Yes, really🤭!Hall Brothers Motorcycles hosted two, great evening events over the Race the Waves weekend, and I got the chance to have a sit on their lovely, turbo-charged Harley Davidson.Left: When the Bultaco sinks in the sand, it doesn’t need to lean on its side stand. It just stands up on its own. Middle: Special reserve fuel can attached to the forks ‘just in case’. Right: When the bike doesn’t sink into the sand, it needs a good stone to put the side stand on, and here’s this year’s stone! The last of my Race the Waves pictures, and two things that caught my lens. Left: A home built monster with a Jawa speedway engine and an exhaust pipe that seems to have navigated itself around the engine and gearbox. Right: an ingenious way to prevent two bikes from falling over in the wet sand. Just lock the handlebars together and strap them with a piece of old inner tube. Brilliant!‘Our’ Swallows arrived back from Africa in Spring, had two successful broods of chicks in our shed and are getting ready to fly back there this month. It’s a 6-8,000 mile/26,000-29,000 kms journey for them and will take about six weeks. This was an early morning picture with 4 of them silhouetted against the dawn sky.Top: I’ve used GoPro cameras on my mountain bikes and motorcycles, and recently got one of these tiny ThumbPro 4K cameras. I’ve attached it to the wing of a radio controlled car to test it as it weighs hardly anything. It’s very, very light as the power source is the car battery. Bottom: Whilst I’m on about radio controlled stuff, I got home from a session at the track and whilst cleaning the car, found that someone had stuck a snail sticker on the wing. Whilst my speed might be slow-ish at this scale, nobody could catch me at Race the Waves to put a snail sticker on me. Ha!
