It’s now a week since I did the 2025 Race The Waves (RTW from here on), and I’ve had time to reflect on my experience and the event. This is the fourth time that I’ve been fortunate to be part of it, and the third time I’ve done it on the Bultaco. This isn’t going top be a long post as I’ve previously written about the event in more detail (links below), and my only wish is that at the end of this one, you’re ready to enter the 2026 event, which will be held in early September.
I wanted to find a song called RTWs and I did actually find two of them. Unfortunately, they were both shit (in my opinion obviously😂), so that avenue into this post is now closed as a connection. The short fact is, RTW 2025 was the best yet, and not just because the weather was amazing, which brought big crowds out, or the fact that I won two of my races (Ha!). It was just a combination of things like meeting people that I haven’t seen since the last RTW, and the energy in the people connection just picked up from where we left off last year. There were new cars and bikes racing and the rest of the vehicles were familiar to the event like my Bultaco. Incidentally, I had geared up the Bultaco for a better top speed and it was waaaaaaay better, whilst still launching off the line well.
The beach on Saturday had some quite large ripples in it, which actually looked like motocross whoops when the bike hit them at full speed. Sunday saw a smooth beach and I think someone had been out dressing the sandy beach to make it better than the previous day.
Photographs keep the memories alive and capture the spirit of the people and the event, and this year has seen the most photos shared ever, and there’s still more to come I reckon. I guess the last, big shout-out is to the organising team, who made the event a world class experience. If you want to read about the man who dreamed this event up and runs it, Paul Garbutt, you can read it from the link below.
